Tell us more about you Ashleigh

I love being so close to the ocean. I recently moved into a new space with my fiance Jake, and I am so lucky to have my studio just minutes from my home. A few work highlights for me would be my very first show that sold out in 2014, creating work for the Van Gogh Art Gallery in Madrid, Spain, signing with Studio Gallery and being a finalist for the Mosman Art Prize in 2019.

Your greatest inspirations or influences?

Mark Rothko for art and Blondie as an all round inspiration - I love her music.

Tell us a bit about your creative process? things you are looking forward to this year?

My creative process constantly changes but I love painting in a space full of natural light, music and candles burning which helps keep me inspired and grounded.

How has this year changed your creativity or how you see the world changing moving forward?

I think last year really took the world back to basics, realising the most important things are your health and family. Lots of people moved back to their creative elements with the extra time they had at home so it was inspiring to see so many people creating again.

Who do you consider to be an icon of our time?

Otis Hope Carey - he is doing incredible things.

Do you think the art world needs to change, and if so how can it be improved.

I think it's always changing, this year there were more female finalists in the Archibald in history so that was a significant change and one i'm really excited to see.

What does wellbeing mean to you?

Wellbeing to me means ocean swims, phone calls with loved ones and lots of music to keep an inspired and calm mind.
