SUNDAY JAZZ
We Talk to Homero Alvarez about his jazz band’s latest release “ Recycle” Perfect listening to on a Wintery Sunday Dreaming of Summer
Not too long ago I interviewed Homero Alvarez, of Sep7ett, a jazz band that fuses a lot of South American beats and melodies. They’ve recently released a new EP I wanted to share, because today is Sunday, and today we listen to jazz music all day. I call it jazz and chill. Here’s a conversation with Homero on some recent updates and stuff since our last post.
Homero, so what’s been going on since our last chat?
Well Leila, last time we spoke everything was supposed to go back to normal after summer. I thought gigs would come back and the live music scene would recover, I wanted to release our second EP Recycle with a live show, but we had to adapt and here we are hoping that all of this will change soon.
How do you see the world changing or moving forward?
There is an enormous hunger for live music. Both musicians and the audience are longing for this and yet you see many talented musicians adapting to new ways , using social media for example, not just to survive but to stay connected. Its all a transition we are all going through. Jazz mostly is a live thing, so I hope that we can go back to doing live music , because people want to enjoy that experience again.
Congrats on your release “ Recycle” Tell us more about it.
Recycle is, as the name tells, is an album with compositions I made long time ago for different TV, radio and theater productions that never had the chance to bloom, or be produced like now.
The first song RUNNING GIRL has some up-tempo EDM influences with repetitive basslines and on-four beats. ETERNITY is a 90's soft fusion song while DRIVE IN SPACE is a crazy fast speed waltz with shifting harmonies and polyrhythmic patterns. It's just the last song, MIGRATION ROADS that keeps a latin vibe with Cumbia. The brass section of Karl Olandersson and Karin Hammar mixed with the percussive parts made by Ola Bothzén and Andreas Ekstedt were so fabulous. Even if this band carries my name I still want to see it as a musically well balanced group were the musicality of every one comes out. There are some excellent keyboard features from Colombian piano player Arnold Rodriguez as from my compatriot, Argentinian bass player Juan Patricio Mendoza.
Anything else?
We're planning to make videos but what we really would love is to come out and play live!
Hope people like our music and add it to their favourite playlist! Thank you Leila
