An Artist in a Changing Globalized world

An Artist in a Changing Globalized world

Interview with Nayla Kai Saroufim

When I spent time living in Beirut a few years ago, I was constantly inspired by the art, the designs, galleries, stores, and creatives I met living there. Today I am excited to introduce and present the work of Nayla Kai Saroufim.

She was born in 1982 and educated at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux Arts, She is a Lebanese artist and art director captivated by the dialogue between painting and installation. Her art combines digital flair with layers of paint and creates multi-layered statements and expressions of emotions using raw materials: cement, nails, stainless steel and wood. This results in an array of shifting visual tales that are shaped by moods, experiences, fluctuating urban identity, travel and sparks of personal inspiration. Her fascination with the artistic tradition, contemporary popular culture and the essence of being a citizen in a changing globalized world are evident in her work. In addition to envisioning her personal pieces, she customizes creations. Since 201,3 she has exhibited her work in the Middle east, Europe, Asia (Singapore) and soon in the US.

 Your greatest inspirations or influences.

I am obsessed with pop culture and anything related to art, and architecture. I’m always attracted by crazy artists that take risks and make me dream.

What would be a dream project for you?

To live my dream; expanding and exhibiting my work all around the world is what I have always dreamed of

Favourite websites, social media handles or publications?

Instagram of course! I follow a lot of art websites like Saatchi Art, Artsy, galleries and artists like Kaws, Murakami etc…

How would you describe your artistic style.

I always follow my heart, I am a very emotional person and that helped me in my work. As an artist I can only trust my emotions, I am a happy person and I want my art to reflect that.

It is too easy to see the bad and ugliness of this world, but it is the beauty that emerges from tragedy that inspires me. My work explodes with vibrant colors and that gives me a feeling of happiness.

Most interesting response to your work so far

My work creates emotion, it is all about life, energy, colors combination, shapes, bubbles…
