VIKTOR ŠEKULARAC PHOTOGRAPHY
Viktor Šekularac is a photographer I met when we were both living and breathing New York city a few years back. I became a fan immediately of his visual identity, powerful imagery and captures of candid moments in the city as well as underground music scene.
I told him a long time ago, that one day if I had an agency I would be honored to represent him. It was incredible for me to see someone that young create recognizable work due to to his lighting aesthetic that illustrate his views of his world and daily life including his gorgeous muse, French actress Helene Kuhn.
Born in 1980 in Belgrade, he currently lives and works in Paris. Viktor studied photography at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade. In 1999 joined Otpor (the resistance movement against Milošević’s regime) as both a photographer and art director.
From 2003 to 2006 he worked as a graphic designer and photographer for Remont Independent Artistic Association and Art Magazine in Belgrade. In 2005 he created the visual identity for the 46th October Salon in Belgrade, an annual art expo featuring local and international artists.
In 2006 he moved to New York City where he worked as a photojournalist and began creating his photo-series of city landscapes, street life and underground music scene. Other accomplishments include taking part in the MultiMadeira Artist Residency in Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal as well as his Cuba series shot in La Havana.
Since 2000 Viktor has exhibited in galleries in ex-Yugoslavia, Switzerland, France, Italy, UK and US. His work has been published in different magazines, books, etc. and below is a selected series of work I was very keen on sharing.
