INTERVIEW WITH YOSUZI

INTERVIEW WITH YOSUZI

yosuzi.jpg

Yosuzi stands for cactus flower, in an indigenous dialect spoken by the Guajiro Indians in Venezuela. Her mother is of Guajiran Royal descent, and her father, who is French- Italian decided it would be appropriate to name their last child with a name that never really existed. Yosuzi grew up in Venezuela, went to boarding school in Wales and graduated early from Boston University with honors. She loves modeling, loves music, loves to travel and more importantly lives for the moment. We think she's not only absolutely gorgeous but we love her taste in music so we asked her share her Coachella experiences with us.

How do you describe your style?

My style is constantly evolving. But I would say I am somewhere in between eccentric and street-chic.

Challenges of being a model?

Before you walk into a casting clients already have an image of what they want in their heads. Whether you fit that image or not is beyond your control. So there is really not much you can do to get a job, except be patient. A lot of it has to do with being in the right place at the right time.

Musical tastes?

I have a strong appreciation for ANY music that makes me dance. But good minimal and/or tech-house is what really floats my boat.

Sven Vath is to electronic music as to what Michael Jackson is to pop music. He plays this sort of pretty yet evil tech-trance that seems to make you want to just lift up your arms and say "this is f ing unbelievable"..and then you dance for another 8 hours. He is also a very fun-loving guy with the most unbelievable life stories. He has a great vision as musical entrepreneur; he is uncorrupted by his fame and very loyal to his fans.

My latest favorite minimal electro Dj's would have to be Pier Bucci, Marco Carola and Seth Troxler. They all have somewhat different styles of playing but I like the fact that they include this sort of groovy-funkiness to their minimal beats. Their beats are super sexy and lively- all you want to do is bounce up and down and twirl someone around.

Tell us about Coachella 2008

My favorite part of Coachella was going to the smaller parties outside of the festival since it was less commercial and less crowded. The anthem magazine party was a lot of fun. VIP passes for Coachella festival is the way to go since you have access to bigger bars and cleaner bathrooms. M.I.A and Kid Sister gave amazing live performances. They really got the crowd going and their costumes where hilarious. However, Prince and Roger Waters where the most popular amongst the masses. My favorite musical experience was listening to Animal Collective, just because I had never heard that style of experimental music before. It was so weird that it was cool.

Favorite spots to go out in New York?

  • Gemma, Bobo, Pure food and wine,

  • Bowery bar, Rose bar,

  • Sheik and Beik, Minimoo

Best musical experience?

Burning Man is by far the best party in the world. However BM is more arts orientated than the music, so I'd have to go with WMC. But it’s really all about the friends you're with that makes the experience THAT much better.

Favorite websites Yosuzi?

  • www.google.com/reader keeps track of my favorite news sites and puts them in a personalized inbox so when I’m at castings or waiting in line at the post office I can just whip out my black berry and get in touch with what's going on in the world

  • www.theweekdaily.com because its a reliable news source that gives you the best of the U.S. and International media

  • www.style.com because I'm into fashion

  • www.mentalfloss.com and www.boingboing.net- I love learning about random things

Fashion icons?

What do you plan to do in the future?

Conquer the world.

(And we are sure she will.)
