A Special Visit to the Muzeum Hraček

Situated in the Old Count’s Chambers of Prague Castle, in the vicinity of the Golden Lane and just behind the statue of the boy with the golden wee wee, the Prague Toy Museum is apparently the second largest museum of its kind in the world.

I definitely felt like a kid in a candy shop with the seven exhibition rooms made up of toys from all over the world, starting from Greek ancient times, original Teddy Bears, lots of Star Wars collectibles and ending with an impressive "50 Years of Barbie" exhibition.

Vintage toys include a collection from Ivan Steiger, the film maker and cartoonist, who collected toys from the 50's made up of tin and wood. I particularly loved the tin Frankenstein with his pants off and the iconic cymbal banging monkey from the 1930's. 

If you go, make sure to enjoy the robot wall case and of course the many Czech and Bohemian traditional toys, ( special mention to the Christmas section full of Krampus dolls),  toy cars, and motorcycles, air planes and toy train-mechanisms including the oldest Märklin engines and accessories. 

I found it oddly disturbing that people and even kids, were lining up to touch/stroke the boy with the Golden Penis in front of the toy museum.
