One of the standout artists featured is Ana Segovia, born in Mexico City in 1991, Segovia’s paintings revisit and reconfigure iconic scenes from film and sports, challenging their traditional portrayals of masculinity. Drawing inspiration from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema and Western genres, Segovia disrupts familiar imagery to reveal the artifice and performativity in the construction of gender and national identities. Love her work!

The booth also highlights the collaborative duo Jennifer Allora & Guillermo Calzadilla. Allora, from Philadelphia, and Calzadilla, from Havana, have been working together since 1995. Their innovative practice spans performance, sculpture, sound, video, photography, and painting, addressing the intersections of history, ecology, and geopolitics. With solo exhibitions at prestigious institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, their work is renowned for its experimental and thought-provoking nature.

Another notable artist featured WangShui, whose work examines divergent structures of perception through video, sculpture, painting, and installation. Born in Dallas in 1986, WangShui’s art explores liminality and its potential as a form of resistance. Their work delves into the latent spaces within images and materials, creating hallucinatory states that challenge the boundaries between detail and distance, transparency and opacity, and knowing and unknowing.

Kurimanzutto’s booth also presents works by esteemed artists such as Abraham Cruzvillegas, Adrián Villar Rojas, Bárbara Sánchez-Kane, Damián Ortega, Felipe Baeza, Gabriel Orozco, Haegue Yang, John Giorno, Leonor Antunes, Nairy Baghramian, Petrit Halilaj, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Roberto Gil de Montes, Roman Ondak, and Wilfredo Prieto. These artists engage with themes of political and social relevance, using a variety of media. The exhibition also includes pieces by artists who recently exhibited at La Biennale di Venezia, exploring notions of masculinity through fashion, performance, sculpture, and painting.

Kurimanzutto’s booth at Art Basel 2024 is a testament to the gallery's commitment to showcasing artists who challenge conventional narratives and provoke thoughtful discourse through their innovative and impactful works. Visitors can expect to engage with art that not only resonates on a personal level but also reflects broader socio-political and cultural themes, making it a must-see presentation at this year's Art Basel.
