Lov-Lov, the AI Artist Redefining Identity in Art

Art Basel Hong Kong's 2024 edition boasted over 200 international galleries, signaling a return to pre-pandemic scale with 65 more exhibitors than last year. Notable among them, DE SARTHE’s "Everything is Unreal Until It’s Not," a solo exhibition by New York-based artist Lov-Lov which truly stood out.

Featuring a striking semi-organic installation, the exhibition explores the juxtaposition of the “idyllic and the unsettling”. Delving into the comforts and catastrophes of AI, Lov-Lov's artworks provoke contemplation on the authenticity of virtual mirages and the intricate illusions of reality.

Lin Jingjing, based in New York, introduces Lov-Lov, an AI-like artist entity exploring the uncanny valley. Gender-neutral and history-less, Lov-Lov defies conventional artist identities, relying solely on self-definition. Embracing absurdity and surrealism, Lov-Lov's paintings depict vibrant, surreal landscapes while short video works feature artificially generated characters. The exhibition at DE SARTHE delves into the intersection of AI and art, questioning the role of machines in creativity.

DE SARTHE, a leading platform for contemporary Asian art, continues its legacy of showcasing boundary-pushing works since 1977, with a presence in Paris, America, and Hong Kong.

Ninu Nina specializes in sourcing emerging art for young private collectors, with a primary focus on contemporary photography and visual arts originating from the Middle East and India.
