Ruttkowski68 PRESENTS ARTIST FRANCESCO IGORY DEIANA

Francesco Igory Deiana (b.1986, Italy) presents his fourth solo exhibition Desire with Ruttkowski;68 gallery in Paris.

Deiana’s works are inspired by and profoundly related to language, words, letters, and the way they shape our perception and patterns of thinking- often charged with symbolism and hidden meanings. The exhibition will be on display through November 18th.

Throughout the show, Deia urges us to contemplate the true cost of these cravings and the emptiness that often follows their attainment in a world that is perpetually driven by consumption.

Aesthetics resembling the precision of technically drawn forms and figures, let works of geometric structure and loose symmetry emerge. The illustration of paper folds form frames for moments of memory, archiving, and examination of chapters of our time. They serve as fragments of an introspective journey that playfully approaches the conditions of modern existence.

THANK YOU FOR JOINING US TODAY FRANCESCO.

Greatest inspirations or influences?

Sometimes the biggest inspiration I can get Is by looking at someone else’s work and seeing how they pushed their limits, boundaries, and imagination within the realization of their art, how they hung it or installed it, how weird can someone get with materials and problem-solving, dimensions and space.

That said, seeing a really inspiring show is quite rare for me.

Things we are surrounded by, color combinations, history, and facts are what get me going and influence my work often.

What is your creative process like from the point of ideation to complete work?

I often fall deep into something that can be a blend of intuition, experimentation, a moment/chapter in life, my present state of mind and meticulous planning, until I feel like I’m ready to start working on it. I feel like it could be a similar approach to what creating a book would be.

I often invest a significant amount of time and mental energy into each piece, resulting in a layered and thoughtful body of work.

I begin drawing and proceed to paint in layers, allowing the artwork to develop depth and complexity over time.

I’m often obsessed with the surface, layering, and smoothness of the paint, and while creating, I continuously think about the progression of my work, which sometimes hunts me through the period of the realization of the artwork and until I’m done. Which I think it’s a relatable feeling for many of my close artist friends.

What is the highlight of this show and what point are you making with the state of the modern world?

My work is transitioning onto something new right now, I would say the highlight of this show may be the way I use hidden symbols and words in many of the paintings, to convey complex themes and messages.

Leaving those open to questioning and imagination can be a powerful artistic approach, as it invites viewers to engage more deeply with the work. I wish to encourage people to bring their own perspectives and experiences to the paintings.

I also think that can lead to a more personal and meaningful connection between the audience and my pieces, allowing each viewer to find their unique meaning and resonance within my work.

What point do I make with the state of the modern world?

Mmmmm difficult question hehe

I think in today's world, it's clear that we face numerous complex challenges, and the global situation often feels uncertain and unstable. While it's easy to be overwhelmed by these issues, I try to focus on maintaining a positive outlook rather than dwelling on the difficulties.

It's a way to stay engaged with the world while preserving my mental well-being.

However, it's truly inspiring to witness the younger generation's heightened awareness and sensitivity to these issues. They offer hope for a more conscientious and positive future.

What does well-being mean to you?

Balance.

  • I think It's about finding it and maintaining it.

  • Striving for harmony and contentment in all aspects of life. Maybe the hardest thing to achieve no matter how much of one thing or another you have.

  • Money, health, purpose and fulfillment, success etc…

  • Nothing matters without balance
