IN CONVERSATION WITH ART DIRECTOR TESSA RIEMEIER

Hi, my name is Tessa. I’m a Visual Artist and (Graphic) Designer from Berlin.

I focus on unique identities for brands & spaces – digital and physical – elevating visual representations that stimulate the senses. Working as an Art Director allows me to express my most radiant self in several fields like  fashion, design, music & advertising. I am the happiest to call my work: my passion!

Tessa, tell us about your greatest inspirations or influences please

I’m most inspired in big cities. The mix of diverse architecture, different cultures, light & sound fuels my creativity. Sometimes it’s just about the fleeting moment when the sunlight hits the passing subway and reflects back to me. Other times it’s about strolling down the streets, absorbing the different influences  that I come across. But my all time inspiration and ultimate fascination is the Universe: “Space is the  place”. It encourages me to think beyond my immediate surroundings, it lets my imagination run wild and  is the biggest inspiration for my collage work where I craft cut-outs from magazines or books into physical  or digital art.

We’d love to hear about your creative process..

I love the construction of each creative process. Every new client is a blank canvas. The approach might stay similar - but the assets and the tone are always changing, that’s why I am never bored of my work. The only consistency here is change. This is my creative process for a brand identity:

Step one is starting to identify yourself with the client. Learn everything about their story, brand values  and ideas. I start sketching words, colors, shapes, symbols and everything else that comes to mind and  think about a rough concept. After the first scribbles I look for mood images that translate my ideas,  followed by a deep font research. I start creating a solid idea which will be later turned into a well-shaped  360 concept. Within each process, I work out several design directions and concepts that I start to  execute in Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop or Premiere. Playing around with different design tools,  layouts, colors and illustrations translates my idea to the brand and brings a new identity to life.

Describe your style/ visual identity please

I describe my style as edgy, eclectic and funky. Working with vibrant colors and crazy fonts is just so much fun. High contrasts and bold imagery are my jam. This also relates to my personal style and can be  seen in my jobs as a stylist. My favorite part of working with a client is the total freedom and dedication to  the project. Honest feedback and when clients can identify themselves with my work is the sweetest  reward.

Tessa, what does wellbeing mean to you?

Wellbeing=Routine.

I start my day with a meditation followed by a workout & short journaling session.  My morning routine sets the vibe and motivation for the rest of my day. Wellbeing means also to find the  perfect work life balance, cultural stimulation and enjoying my loved ones…but my favorite method for  wellbeing is: to dance! A boogie & groovy music is always the answer.

Anything else Tessa? Thanks for joining us today.

Full power towards whatever - that’s my mantra!
