SINGER AND SONGWRITER LEON SETI
Italian-born, Amsterdam-based Leon Seti is the creative brainchild of Leo Baldi. Producing and singing nostalgic yet experimental electro-pop earned him comparisons to the likes of Björk, Peter Gabriel, and The Pet Shop Boys.
Growing up in a small town in Italy, he started singing late in his teens, joining various rock bands before eventually gravitating to writing pop songs on his laptop. After completing high school, he moved to the UK where he completed a BA in philosophy while simultaneously trying to establish himself as an artist. Going on to achieve an MA in philosophy in London, he never lost sight of his true passion, working many jobs while still pursuing his love for music. Grimoire is an LP where Seti’s voice takes center stage over deep and nostalgic electronic instrumentals produced by Pancratio. An ethereal collection of Seti’s thoughts, and dreams.
Greatest inspirations or influences?
As an artist my greatest inspirations are my own personal life experiences, I find that writing from the heart also helps me heal. In terms of sonic influences, I think the music I seem to be going back to is the work of Björk, Anohni, Madonna, Banks, and I'm very fascinated by old folk music from all over the world.
Tell us about your latest track.
Grimoire was born as an ambient track about believing in magic and fairytales, but then Pancratio and I decided to turn it into a dance track. The song is all about getting lost in a sense of childish wonder, like opening a book of magic.
How did you begin your musical journey?
My project came together while I was at uni, I just wanted to express myself and write electronic pop songs. I felt very lonely at the time, and my laptop became my escape. Melodies would flow out every time I opened it. So slowly but surely Leon Seti was born as an alter ego of ordinary Leo.
What does well-being mean to you?
Well-being for me is taking life as it unravels in front of me, slowly, at my own pace, without worrying about anybody else. Of course, it's not as easy as it sounds, but there's something magical about seeing the sun rise and set without ever hurrying.
