HUTCHY GAS PRICES

Michael Hutchinson, a.k.a Hutchy is a musician, dj and producer originally from Jamaica living in Washington D.C. since 1978.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been involved with music. In high school I did a rendition of ‘Master Blaster Jamming’ by Stevie Wonder and since then I always knew I belonged on stage.  I knew I had a gift to connect with people through music and live performances'.

Hutchy purchased a drum machine and began experimenting with production and making beats. He worked with some influential producers and well established engineers he admired such as Scientist and Phillip Smart whom he met as a regular fixture on the music scene. He began his own label, Ruff Cut Records specializing in originality and experimentation of music fusing dancehall, dub, electro, funk and hip hop.  The artist released his first album, My Time, in 2007- consisting of 15 tracks which got regular airplay both in the U.S. and the U.K.

“Ruff Cut is not just Reggae. I work in a variety of styles and genres such as dance music that stems from Dub. As a performer, I have collaborated with some of the most influential bands and artists of our day; Inner Circle, Thievery Corporation, BT, Deep Dish, etc.  The music scene of Washington D.C. in the nineties decade took the world by storm and I am really fortunate for having been a part of it. The younger generation craves that kind of inspiration.  The things happening in the world, politically affecting our daily lives, people turn to music and art for expression and connection. Although I released Gas Prices in 2007, the lyrics and frustration could not be more relevant than today.”
