ARTIST RENE HOLM

Rene Holm is one of Denmark’s most established contemporary artists known for his large scale multi media paintings exploring humans interaction with nature.

As a kid I loved to play in the forest and build huts….maybe this is why I am painting trees today ? For 5 years I worked on graffiti mostly, it was like a drug, and I guess that’s how I got involved in art.

Greatest inspirations or influences in your artwork?

It’s very simple. My inspiration are humans and our dynamics. What we do to each other in both good and bad ways, what i see and feel, and of course Nature.

How does technology affect your work as a creative?

Technology doesn’t have a direct effect on my work, I am old school and I love to work with traditional materials, canvas, oil paints, pigments, but I am working on my first NFT now so yes I guess technology is part of my artistic process.

Tell us about your creative process

It begins with an idea, and usually I just hang a note in my studio, sometimes for years, before i know exactly why and how I want to approach the project. Then I begin to work on my research. Sometimes I go to the countryside, and document places with my camera.

What do you think of the art world and how it’s constantly developing?

In my opinion the art world is about luck and networking.

Really its about developing relationships with the right collectors and gallerists and typically they are the one’s that will decide on your destiny as an artist. Unfortunately it’s only about talent and hard work. In terms of how the industry is changing. I guess we’re all waiting to see what’s going to happen with this NFT space. Is it here to stay?

What does wellbeing mean to you and what do you practice?

Many things like: enjoying new experiences, meeting interesting people, making the perfect painting, spending time in my studio, traveling the world and of course nature. Also it’s very important to have fun, dance and I really enjoy old fashioned cocktails!

Anything else you’d like to share with us?

Yes, I hope to do art for as long as I can, and to continuously challenge my own work.
