PHOTOGRAPHER DIEGO CAMPOMAR

We can not stress enough how much time we spend looking for the most talented and creative artists to feature from all over the world. We are beyond excited to present our interview with visual artist Diego Campomar who in our opinion is one of the most exciting ones working today.

Diego thank you for joining us here today, tell us about yourself pls.

I am Uruguayan, and I studied philosophy at the University of Humanities in Montevideo. After 2 years of my career, I decided to go to Europe to experience something new, in London I had my first approach with photography. Later on I continued my studies in Uruguay and Spain. I established myself in Uruguay when I began to collaborate with the director of the Pablo Gimenez design school who opened the doors of the fashion industry in Uruguay. Here I had the opportunity to experiment and collaborate with local designers and international brands. I currently live in Melbourne, Australia

Your greatest inspirations or influences Diego?

I have many inspirations, the sound of Chris Isaak's guitar transports me directly to LA and I can't stop imagining myself driving a beautiful convertible from the 90s and feeling like time has stopped. Lenny Kravitz infects me with that New York energy where I feel that I can do everything I want. I think my biggest inspiration is my own life, I try to be inspired by what happens around me.

Tell us about your creative process

My creative process is based on experimentation, I like to start one project experimenting with what I'm feeling and with that feeling create an idea, sometimes I carry out a completely intellectual process and from that point generate a feeling, but this process is long and many times it takes me months to find that feeling I'm looking for. Once I have a feeling, I can imagine the photos that I want to take.

I have an idea in my head for more than 6 months it is a script for a small short film, I would like to be able to finish it this year.

How has the pandemic affected your creativity?

My own process with covid19 has made me be more honest with myself and allowed me to learn to listen to myself.

Icons in your opinion?

I am a fan of David Lynch, I feel very comfortable with his narratives, it also surprises me how constant he is in all his projects, I recognize it's hard to achieve that and he does it in an incredible way.

How do you see the art world changing?

I think it is very difficult to think about art without change, it's simply something that happens, from my point of view art is in constant change and evolution, it is we who consider it as something static many times.

What does wellbeing mean to you?

There is nothing more beautiful than remembering that we are alive.
