Your greatest inspirations or influences?

A lot of the time I find inspiration in experiences.

New places and people interest me. I think the relationships between those people and places is really where I start to think about my work.

I am about to open a show of new works in Zurich at Livie Fine Art.

Most of the paintings and drawings in this show are based off of memories of various locations. This show is really thinking about a lake front path that wraps around Lake Zurich and the Le Corbusier Pavilion park.

Tell us a bit about your creative process, and work you are most proud of? Things you are most looking forward to?

My creative process is pretty straight forward I guess. I spend a lot of time drawing I often do a number of small drawings before I start working on larger ink drawings. Eventually I will start to paint, the paintings are informed by the smaller works. The black and white ink drawings is where I try and work out shapes and weight. The painting really starts with the play of color and shift in scale. A lot of time is spent trying to get the color and form balance right.

It is hard to say what I am most proud of. I don’t know if I have done enough or lived long enough to really look back and say there is one moment or thing that really defines pride. I guess you could say I am proud to have made it this far, and have every intention to keep going.

As far as things I am looking forward to, there are a handful of upcoming things I am working towards, most importantly I am looking forward to seeing friends and my family in a real way this summer an am excited to have the opportunity to travel, and meet new people out in the world again.

Also my upcoming shows:

  • My first solo show in Zurich Switzerland at Livie Fine Art, the opening is May 27th.

  • I will also be opening my first solo show in San Fransisco this summer at Berggruen Gallery on July 8th.

I am currently in the process of working on a number of bronze sculptures for an upcoming exhibition at Baldwin Gallery in Aspen.

How has this year changed your creativity or how you see the world changing moving forward?

This past year, 2020, has been eye opening in so many ways. For my creative process, I don’t know how much has changed. I sort of just kept working. It was a good escape from the anxiety of the world. Or a way to focus it...There were periods of time where I was not allowed to go to my studio building because of restrictions in the city. But in those moments I worked at home. In a way that sort of helped me focus more on drawings and in a way find a new voice in that medium which has been very exciting.

Who do you consider to be an icon of our time?

I guess I would say that everyone who gets up and keeps going when things are hardest is an icon.

That can be anyone and everyone, picking just one person seems too hard.
