Hi.

Our mission is simple: to share inspiring narratives. We curate exceptional talents, selecting them solely based on the merit of their work, not fleeting trends. Join us in exploring the uncharted territories of creativity and celebrating the essence of artistry.

SAMPLING AS AN ART

SAMPLING AS AN ART

We interview musical artist, S3A (aka Sampling As An Art) who’s been producing House, Disco, Soul, Funk, Techno, etc, using the process of sampling as a basis to color his music with sounds from all his inspirations. Today he provides us with an amazing list of these inspirations for your listening pleasure.

Career highlights?

There have been so many highlights across my time in electronic music:

  • I’d start with my residency at the infamous Concrete club in Paris, a really special place for me.

  • My 2014 Remix for Laurent Garnier on Music Large

  • My first tour in Japan, which I just love.

  • Debut live set at Nuit Sonores in 2016, starting my Rex club residency In 2017.

  • First Tour In Australia in 2018 and a real milestone in 2019 with my debut album on Dirt Crew (semi accoustic).

  • Last year’s highlight was probably my set at The Lot Radio in New York

Greatest inspirations or influences

Influence is everywhere. For the music, on the jazz funk tip I’d say :

Tell us about your creative process.

I listen all kinds of music, all the time. So, When I catch a part of a song I want to take somewhere else, I pull it apart. After a couple of weeks I have plenty of little parts like this and I decide on a direction for  track. With this material I make a chaptered song and I do my best with the sound to keep the musicality and add more color/dynamism where I can . I want my music to be warm/emotionnal/dynamic and powerful!

Tell us about your new projects.

The EP « Pages Epilogues » on Cinthie’s Label « 803 Crystal Grooves Collective Cuts » just came out  It was the last chapter of the 2019 Album « Pages » on Dirt Crew.

I recently became a part of the Laurent Garnier Off The Record documentary too. It was finished recently so now it’s time to get back to EPs. I have two different projects ready to be released.  One under my S3A (The Ravist) alias ( 90’s UK hardcore breakbeat scene), and the other « Classic » S3A with ambitious and emotional tracks. We’re searching for good places for them now.

How has covid affected your creativity and the industry moving forward?

The ‘Pages Epilogue EP’ was originally scheduled for March and was postponed to end of June…. For now, the gigs are coming back, but, I must confess, I am not peaceful about all of this. I saw recently the club identified as a super spreader in Switzerland…As long as there is a doubt on the presence or on our vulnerability about the COVID situation, the clubbers will be seen as potential spreaders of the disease… I think the club scene will be the laaaaaasssssttt thing to get back to the business due to its nature in itself… those places are here to abandon yourself, to release the pressure, to get in touch with people…

Anything else you'd like to share?

Yeah of course! Music!
