SCHIMANSKI – ACID FUNK

SCHIMANSKI is a one man band, a classic bedroom producer from Vienna, Austria and all he wants is to make us dance, with his new video Acid Funk.

Greatest inspirations or influences?

My influences tend to be very broad but in terms of Funk I am a huge fan of 70s and 80s funk, so both the classic funk era as well as the more disco-infused, prince-style of funk. Another huge influence for me is the Acid House and Big Beat / Break Beat era. One of my all time favorite artists is The Crystal Method. With Schimanski I am trying to fuse these inspirations into one unique sound!

Whats this video all about?

I think Covid has really impacted not only nightlife but also the way we interact with music. I totally support the Covid measures but I also miss those dance floors. What I wanted to convey with the video is that despite being in lockdown we can still make the best of it, dance at home, dance on zoom with friends, until we can all meet again. I wanted to drop a positive message in all this gloom.

How has this year changed your creative process and how do you see the music industry moving forward? Really difficult to predict. My creative process hasn't been impacted much because I've always been a bedroom producer and spending more time at home actually has helped me be more creative. On the other hand there's no way to say when and if we will have live gigs and clubbing again. I can imagine many venues and also many artists will have to wrap up in this crisis, which is really sad, and I hope many will be able to continue in a post-covid world. I do think that when we get to go out again there will be a heightened need for clubbing and dancing which can also be a chance.
