DAILY ART ADVISORY HIGHLIGHTS ART BASEL 2019

Art Basel brings together the world’s leading galleries exhibiting the works of over 4,000 artists so we asked Daily Art News to highlight a recap of only the best of what was presented this year.

  • HELLY NAHMAD GALLERY

    Mark Rothko`s powerful painting No.7 from 1952 was displayed beautifully between two red Calder kinetic sculptures. Picasso’s painting Femme au Chien 1962 Picasso’s woman with the dog painting was another vibrant and strong piece from the booth amongst the works of the great masters.

  • MARLBOROUGH GALLERY

    84-year-old Portuguese artist Paula Rego’s sculptures and paintings focusing on themes of politics, gluttony and sexuality.


  • Mnuchin Gallery presented a beautiful vibrant painting by the lyrical abstractionist African American artist Sam Gilliam.


  • George Condo’s painting Man and Woman from 2018 alongside a bronze lying deer sculpture from 1990 by Rosemarie Trockel were well juxtaposed at Skarstedt Gallery.



  • The eye catching 24 foot-long, four panel painting by the 86-year-old artist Joan Semmel was shown at Art Unlimited touching on the subject of the artist’s own thoughts of life and passing away.


  • Swiss-born artist Nicolas Party’s vibrant surreal painting was one of the starts at Xavier Hufkens Gallery’s booth sold in the first hours after the opening.

  •  Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac beautifully displayed an Antony Gormley figure sculpture from 2017 standing next to Georg Baselitz painting.
