INTERVIEW WITH ARTIST TAHER JAOUI
Today I interviewed artist Taher Jaoui ( 1978) a French- Tunisian living in Berlin. Although clearly abstract, there was a sense of formulaic mathematical influence that attracted me to his work.
His work mixes painting and drawing, abstraction and representation. In terms of texture his work is mixed between combinations of oil, enamel, spray paint and charcoal on canvas. His background is originally scientific but he began his career in art specifically in 2013 as a collage artist working on small paper works format, making collage with vintage photographs. He began painting in 2014 and as an expressionist his aim is to translate his emotion of the moment on the painting surface.

Your greatest inspirations or influences Taher?
I'm inspired by all the abstract and figurative movements since the second World War.
love the work of Vassily Kandinsky and Arshile Gorky among others.
I find a lot of inspiration in the conductor and violInist Gustavo Dudamel.
I'm very curious about different fields, computer science, history, philosophy, cinema.. Everything inspires me.
Most interesting thing you've heard about your work so far?
I love when the viewers or the collectors tell me that they feel happiness when they see my work. Actually that's what I hear and like the most, that my work make people happy.
What are some of the toughest challenges of the current state of the art industry in your opinion?
I don't have a clear opinion about this. I'm kind a geek guy focusing on my work and my process, this question is more for gallerists I guess.

I've noticed you've worked with different galleries and fairs, how do they differ from each other or how did the theme of your work differ for the different shows?
Yes , I do work with different galleries. Every gallery is different by the size and the culture. I work with small galleries and also with big ones. I'm part of big shows and small shows. I'm very open and also careful with the selection of the shows and the fairs also.
