Ninunina interviews Ana Tafur of Sake, a Peruvian fair trade and ecological brand that collaborates with local artisans who use the ancestral technique of waist weaving to create beautiful textiles and accesories.

How did you start Sake?

After living in China for 5 years working in the massive and often heartless fashion production industry I felt there was a void between design, production, sales and the consumer. Coincidently, I have always loved sustainability, handmade products and the talents of artisans, so I decided to start a brand based on these pure ideals. With these concepts in mind SAKÉ was born.

What are your greatest inspirations or influences?

I would say that there certainly isn´t any one thing that inspires or influences me. In fact I find inspiration in many things colors, nature, travel, the talent of artisans and more generally the serendipity of daily life. Basically everything that touches my senses can be an inspiration.

Who are fashion icons in your opinion?

I tend not to look up to fashion icons, rather I admire and support the conscious and talented people who show vision with their projects and are willing to do things their own way- those who seek harmony and balance while still creating something stunning and current. An example would be iouproject.com However, if you want a name then I would say Diana Vreeland as she has her own style and way of expressing herself (even in her later years.)
