INTERVIEW MALIHA AL TABARI

Maliha AL-Tabari , Artspace's Gallery Director, has operated the gallery for five years after completing her B.F.A as well as a minor in Art History at Otis College of Art and Design, California and Ringling School of Art and Design, Florida. Maliha, who is a painter and sculptor herself says; "Ever since I returned to Dubai in 2002, I noticed the lack of contemporary art and felt the need to promote modern Middle Eastern art in the country".

Backed up by family as well as professional investors and collectors, all are extremely passionate about Art and focus on the long term success of the art business.

Artspace gallery has gone beyond the boundaries of simply holding exhibitions and provides consulting for art investors as well as offering corporate art services to institutions. Maliha opened a second location in London for Artspace this year and hopes to continue to push Middle Eastern art and providing artists a bridge between the East and West.

Greatest inspirations or influences?

I am inspired by creative people, in art, fashion and my travels

Most memorable exhibition and why?

Wow there are so many . The first exhibition Iopened Artspace Dubai with was very special. I was taking a risk , we had around 300 people that night and it was an amazing feeling when I knew I did the right thing.

Up and coming artists we should know about?

Recently we started working with Ozan a Turkish artist that makes sculpture out of lace .  He dyes the lace in any color and produces 3 dimensional forms  that are hollow from the inside . Its really an amazing technique . The girls  he sculpts are so sensual and playful.
