Greatest inspirations or influences?

Cultural Observation. For two years I traveled the world for individual Ethnographic research. The study of cultural observation has led me to a deeper understanding of social – art, cultural relationships, behaviors, rituals and practices of other societies.

Most interesting response to your work so far?

Together with my partners Carlos Maldonato and Karl Dominik  I curated two shows;  The Dekonstrukt by the German artist Alessander Haessner and From China to the Universe by the American artist Brian Reed were both a huge success and encourage me to keep investing on the emerging artist's.

Achievement you are most proud of so far professionally?

There are many, however the photos I took for the Oscar nominated Documentary Waste Land have made me most proud. The movie was shot in Jardim Gramacho, the world largest landfill. The Brazilian artist Vik Muniz’s idea was to photograph pickers from Jardim Gramacho, sell the images at auction, and pump the proceeds back into the community. The result was a chance to hear rubbish pickers discuss the relative merits of Marat and Machiavelli, and an insight into the creation of a modern art and the beauty of the human spirit.

Upcoming projects you are working on?

I have a new art multimedia project launching in 2013. The project proposes a premiere program in New York City. The main goal is to present the best of emerging contemporary Brazilian art and encourage a positive and collaborative exchange within emerging New York artists.

Up and coming artists we should know about?

  • Marcus Chaves, Matheus de Rocha Pitta, Meinrad Rofer

  • Renata Azambuja, and many others not yet discovered.

Favorite websites, blogs, publications?

  • Comtemporary Magazine, The Art Newspaper,

  • Bravo, Aesthetica, Saatchi online, Artlog among others.

How does your Brazilian background influence your creativity?

Contemporary Brazilian art as well as several other segments of our culture and economy, is going through a prosperous change, not only internally but also increasingly relevant in the international arena. I would say observing the Brazilian scenario inside out inspires me to put my dreams into reality.
