TATJANA ANIKA INTERVIEW

TATJANA ANIKA INTERVIEW

It feels like it was just yesterday when I met Tatjana in Paris who was telling me about her plans to start a beachwear collection and here I am so incredibly proud to feature not just a collection but a beautiful brand. Tatjana Anika  is founded upon a philosophy that focuses on the female form. Especially attentive to contours, cuts and design, the result is simply elegant and stunning. Each piece is individually handcrafted in Italy.

After a BA in communications, Tatjana Anika was very uncertain of her future and in what direction to go. She studied French, Contemporary Art and Interior Design, all of which have contributed to the inspirations of the collections in one way or the other. She finally decided to go into fashion design when she realized that the ever face s of fashion would create a constant flow of new ideas and new ways of expression.

Greatest inspirations or influences?

  • The greatest inspirations can come from anywhere. When it comes to the textile designs we use, the inspiration can come from a wallpaper that I saw in a friends coffee table book 2 years ago. That is why I always carry around a sketch-book so that I can keep these images logged easily. Also looking back on fashion trends and looking at different forms of art also helps widen my perspectives. I also get inspired by individuals, from people I see on the street to people I know.

  • As for influences, there are so many. I get influenced by everything from cultures, trends to people I meet everyday. These upcoming collections are all about the Massai tribe and their unique use of primary colors in their beadwork and jewelery, which I tried to translate into the patterns of the new collection. Along with that I was inspired by the African daisy which helped create another of the patterns of the new collections.

Fashion icons in your opinion?

I really appreciate so many people when it comes to their styles. Starting from Daphne Guiness, Carine Rotfield to my friends Concepcion Cochrane Blaquier and Sara Brajovic to old school chic like Bridget Bardot.

Favorite websites, blogs, publications?

  • French Vogue, actually any Vogue, Interview magazine, Numero.

  • Websites: Style.com (essential to keep up)

  • Sara Brajovic & Dailycandy

Who is the person you have in mind when designing your collection? The person I have in mind is the style conscious modern woman who is confident in her style and can dress their looks up or down according to the situation. The person is easy going, does not fuss too much about their look and wears the simplest, classiest looks in their own way.
