JULIA POGODINA INTERVIEW
I first found out about photographer last year when I did a post on "my favorite Halloween costumes" (she was a very real Lichtenstein painting). I then saw her work and ever since have wanted to do a post about her visual eye. This summer Julia went to Burning Man and I just fell in love with the candid photos she took there. Even though photographed with an iPhone the results are true to Julia’s style which is vivid and dreamy.
Greatest inspirations or influences?
- my main inspiration in photography always comes from books and movies, and during the shoot it’s music that inspires me.
Most interesting shoot so far?
- my on-going portrait project. it’s very intimate and very different from everything i did before – i stripped down the unnecessary and narrowed down my usual 10-peope team to just myself (i am being jack-of-all-trades doing hair, styling, and photography) and a make-up artist which allows to be more personable and creative with my models. the results are more natural and timeless than from a regular fashion shoot.
Highlights from the burn 2011?
- Burning man for me was a very special experience. i wanted to go for so long and expected so much, but it exceeded all my expectations. i can compare it to returning to your childhood when life is simple, everything that surrounds you is magical, and everyone around you is your friend. the highlight is definitely all the people you meet there, including your friends whom you see in a different light. i wouldn’t be exaggerating saying that everyone who has ever been in Black Rock City share this warm feeling of brotherhood, special connection we have with each other.
