Last night I attended the preview for Patrice Farameh’s publication New On the Catwalk that features the best new designers from all over the world. The dean of the fashion school, Simon Collins at Parson’s introduced both publisher Ralf Daab, editor/curator Patrice Farameh and discussed in brief the importance of the vision of new designers with a focus on the book and its participants. Designers Cushnie et Ochs and Tô Long-Nam were invited on stage to give advice on the importance of internships and stressed that starting a collection has become 90 % business and maybe 10% creative. This gorgeaus book will make a beautiful gift for the holidays and dont forget to keep an eye out for Patrice’s beautiful curated lifestyle collection.
They come from Parsons The New School for Design in New York, from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, from Central Saint Martins at the University of the Arts in London, or the Vantan Design Institute in Tokyo. They are tomorrow’s fashion designers. NEW ON THE CATWALK showcases the collections of:
- Ada Zanditon, Alice Palmer, Bec & Bridge, Christian Cota, Cushnie et Ochs, Delia Covezzi, Dora Mojzes, Edward Finney, Elisa Palomino, Elise Overland, Felder Felder, Graeme Armour, Ilaria Nistri, Jade Kang, Joanna Kulpa, Jonathan Cohen, Karolin Kruger, Katie Gallagher, Kilian Kerner, Kristofer Kongshaug, Krystof Strozyna, Lako Bukia, Limi Feu, Mandy Coon, Marko Mitanovski, Mary Katrantzou, Matteo Thiela, Orschel-Read, Parkchoonmoo, Perret Schaad, Rad Hourani, Risto, Ronald Abdala, Siki Im, Silvio Betterelli, Steffie Christiaens, Tô Long-Nam, Yotam Solomon, Young Li Lee.
All of them are young, they’re fired by an unshakable passion, and many of them have already seized the chance to make their impressive mark, showing their creations on the catwalks of the world. In an illuminating interview, Simon Collins, director of Parsons The New School for Design, reveals what genuine qualities and talents will transform a graduate of his fashion academy into a creator who inspires the fashion world and makes it to the top of a highly competitive international industry. The young fashion designers profiled in this book have already cleared that hurdle, all of them in their own distinctive way and with their own very different approaches. They take their inspiration from anywhere – from antiquity to visionary sci-fi. In their world, and their society, anything seems possible. Their models come before us cool and classical, ornamented or elfin, sophisticated and over-the-top, morbid or sexy, sculpturally garbed or wrapped in body-hugging creations. NEW ON THE CATWALK highlights the inspirations and intentions behind designer fashion – from the experimental to the actually wearable – in eloquent descriptions, pithy quotations, and short interviews with the new designers.
